Holy Week

This week, Christians around the world celebrate the days leading up to the death, burial and ultimately resurrection of Jesus. Lakewood is no exception! We began the week celebrating the triumphal entry of King Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. On Monday through Wednesday, Bill Risinger is leading a Holy Week Bible study at noon. Make plans to join us on your lunch break if you have not already.

On Thursday, we remember Maundy Thursday, the night Jesus was betrayed after breaking bread with his disciples and giving them a new commandment: love one another. Join us as we remember that night and partake in the Lord’s Supper together. We will also hear from special guest, Chris Britt, who will perform portions of the Gospel of Matthew that pertain to that night. He performs each character with a personal and believable portrayal. The service is at 6:30pm in the Chapel, and childcare will be provided for children ages birth through pre-k.

Join us Friday at noon or 6:30pm in the Worship Center for a special Good Friday Service. Come as we both mourn and celebrate the day our Lord Jesus, the Savior of the world, died on the cross. We will, again, experience Chris Britt continuing the Passion Story in his portrayal of Good Friday from the Gospel of Matthew. Childcare for children birth through pre-k will be provided during the 6:30pm service.

On Saturday, bring your family and a picnic to The Retreat at Long Mountain. At our Family Easter Celebration, we’ll picnic and play games starting at 11am and have an Easter Egg Hunt at 1pm. Don’t forget your lawn chairs, kite and outdoor games to enjoy together as a church family.

On Easter Sunday, we will come back together to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus! Come early for a Sunrise Service in the back parking lot at 7am. You can celebrate with us in our traditional-blended Crosspoint venue will be at 9am or 10:30am in the Chapel. Or you can participate in our Real Life venue at 11am in the Worship Center for modern-influenced style of music and technology. Pastor Tom Smiley will be leading these services along with Chris Britt who will conclude his performance of portions of the Gospel of Matthew. There will be no small groups on Easter Sunday, however, there will be childcare for ages birth through pre-k for all services except the Sunrise Service.

We hope you will make plans to be a part of one or more of these special services during this Holy Week.
