Group Essentials

Regardless of the group environment you choose, there are essentials that should be a part of every group experience.  They are:

• Developing Believers (Acts 2:42) – Authentic Community begins by sharing our story.  To better understand our story in light of the Greater story, the textbook of every group must be the Bible.  We encourage everyone who attends Lakewood to read God’s Word daily.  When appropriate, groups are encouraged to use Serendipity House’s Interactive Study Bible for the basis of group discussion.  In addition, groups are encouraged to systematically memorize God’s Word. 

• Genuine Worship (Acts 2:42) – Prayer for one another is an act of worship – it accomplishes more than we can imagine.  Scripture tells us that as we confess our sins to one another and pray for one another we are healed (James 5:16)

• Authentic Community (Acts 2:42,46) – Groups that “do life” together beyond the regular group encounter are often better connected.  Mealing together and shared outside experiences typically help create greater unity, purpose and devotion to one another.

• Life Stewardship (Acts 2:45) – Stewardship of our time, talents, and treasures is our privilege and responsibility – it is how we give back to God and the Body of Christ.  Futhermore, it’s impossible for the staff of Lakewood to adequately care for everyone who attends.  You will be cared for best in group life.  In addition, groups are encouraged to serve together.  We believe community within a group is deepened as we serve the community around the group.

• Personally Sharing Christ (Acts 2:47) – No group is intended to stay together until Jesus comes back.  After a group has been together for 24 months, new people are assimilated at a very minimal rate.  Therefore, groups are encouraged to birth every 18 to 24 months to more effectively love and reach lost people.
